Joc Pederson ranks fifth all-time in home runs hit in a single derby, on account of his 60 total long balls in the 2019 Home Run Derby. In 2019, the event was held at Progressive Field in Cleveland. In order to rack up 60 total home runs, Pederson hit 21 in the first round and a whopping 39 in the first round.
The Home Run Derby that year was hosted at Coors Field, known for its thin air and booming home runs. In order to reach 74 total home runs, Alonso hit 35 in the first round, 16 in the second round, and 23 in the final round that secured him the Home Run Derby title. Julio Rodriguez set the Home Run Derby ablaze as a rookie in 2022, hitting the second most home runs in a single Derby all-time with a total of 81.

The four-minute round length was made permanent in 2016, while the minute of bonus time was reduced to 30 seconds and required two home runs of at least 440 feet (134.1 m). Each batter is allowed one time-out during each round, and two in the finals. In 2000, the field reverted to the current four-player-per-league format.
And while that total is still fourth on the all-time list, it’s a whopping 30 short of the record, which was set by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at Progressive Field in Cleveland in 2019. Guerrero was tied with then-Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson at the end of the round with 29 home runs. They had a tiebreaker but they were tied again at 37 after it.

Griffey was the epitome of cool in 1993, never more than when he blasted a ball over the right field wall at Camden Yards, across Eutaw Street and off the B&O Warehouse. A plaque still marks the spot, noting an estimated distance of 465 feet. As of 2021, nobody has hit the warehouse on the fly in game action. Prince earned the first of his two career Derby titles in 2009 at Busch Stadium, at one point hitting a ball out of sight, an estimated 503 feet to right-center field. His dad, Cecil, famously hit multiple balls into a bar area in the third deck of center field seats in Toronto in 1991. Soto is a hitting phenom, and on this night, he showed that he can launch a baseball as far as anyone, while making it to the final round.

The Pittsburgh Pirates legend finished with 475 home runs, but it was a 535-foot blast at Olympic Stadium that lands on our list. On May 20, 1978, Stargell hit the farthest home run ever recorded in Canada with his eye-popping blast in Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. Keep in mind, he was 38 years old when he hit it and that arguably makes it even more impressive than others above him.

This majestic shot to the right field upper deck seemed to almost disappear into space before coming back. He didn't reach the subway tracks, but Hamilton's first-round performance became legendary. He belted 28 home runs, including a mesmerizing 13 in 13 swings at one point. Seven went at least 500 feet, including a 518-foot blast off the back wall of the bleachers. To put Hamilton's performance into even more awe-inspiring perspective, none of the other participants hit more than eight in the round.
But those who get it know that Bobby Abreu's performance in the Derby at Comerica Park was legendary. After Abreu was finished, he was the sole record holder for most home runs in a round and most home runs in one Derby. Those records have since been broken again, but Abreu's 517-foot shot to the second level in right field will live on our memories. Juan Soto was one of several Derby participants to hit at least one 500-foot bomb during last year's event at Coors Field. The thin Colorado air tends to help matters, as you may have heard.

Regardless of circumstance, Soto smashed this ball into the atmosphere, and as a result he currently holds the record for the longest home run during the Home Run Derby as measured by Statcast. Sammy Sosa at the height of his powers, taking cut after cut at fastballs down the middle? Sosa's 2002 Home Run Derby performance is legendary and perhaps even more so because he ended up losing to Jason Giambi. Sosa's pièce de résistance in Milwaukee that year was a bomb that literally left the building and ESPN measured it at 524 feet. McGwire, who would eventually set a new single-season home run record with 70 in 1998, won his first and only Derby in '92. The 1998 Derby marked the first live telecast of the event, as fans tuned in to see Griffey win his second trophy.
One of his drives landed close to the top of the left field upper deck at Target Field, yielding a projected distance of 510 feet. Judge was just getting warmed up -- in the first round against Justin Bour -- when he pummeled this one over the home run sculpture that then stood beyond the left-center field wall. This blast was a Derby walk-off, giving Judge 13 home runs in the second round to surpass Cody Bellinger’s 12, with a minute still remaining on the clock.
I could watch this guy take batting practice every day for hours and never get bored. When he makes solid contact, it’s just a beautiful and jaw-dropping sight. In the three rounds Vlad Jr. participated in, he never hit fewer than 20 homers. The first round of his Derby career included 29 home runs, which were a record for a short period of time. And then, of course, he followed that with 40 in the epic head-t0-head matchup with Pederson. The Blue Jays’ superstar then faced Alonso in the finals, losing in walk-off fashion.
